Is your home ready for the winter? Don’t wait until the temperatures drop to uncomfortable levels to find out. Just as your air conditioning needs a check before the summer highs hit their stride, you should prep your heating system before you need it. Your home HVAC maintenance should include a few simple checks that you can perform yourself. However, furnaces are complex systems that require professional attention to run in peak condition. Follow these steps to make sure your heat is ready for the winter season. Perform These Steps Yourself Start by testing the thermostat. Wait for a cold night or get up early in the morning and turn back the dial. Did the heater turn on? You don’t want to go through the other steps on this list only to discover that the system won’t turn on when you need it. There are several other quick DIY fixes and checks you can perform yourself. For example, you can replace the air filters in your home if they’re safely accessible, and you can do a surface cleaning to remove dust and any debris. You can also check your doors and windows for air leaks, though a professional home energy audit is a better option if you want to detect every place where you’ll be losing heat this winter. Bleeding the radiator valves is another easy step to perform yourself. Remember to check your carbon monoxide detectors and change the batteries if applicable. Carbon monoxide leaks can be fatal. Place the alarms near all sleeping areas, and keep them at least five feet off the ground. When to Call in the Professionals There are plenty of things only a professional should work with on your heating and cooling system, and an expert can lend their advice on every aspect of home winter preparation. For example, a specialist can check the fan output and search for leaks along the ducts. They can also simply inspect the system and let you know if there are any issues you should handle now to avoid major problems down the road. Things like frayed belts, for instance, are a quick replacement if they’re caught in time. But they can become a major problem if they break completely. Professionals can also check that your thermostat is giving an accurate reading and maintain critical machine components. An HVAC professional can dig deeper than a filter replacement and surface wipe-down of your equipment. Consult an expert for a top-to-bottom cleaning and maintenance before you put your system through heavy use when the weather turns. Check It Before You Need It Remember to have your heater examined during the fall season when temperatures are still comfortable. The last thing you want is to have to wait a few days or longer for parts and repairs once it gets cold. Checking ahead of the winter will also give you enough time to consider a replacement if a more efficient system is a viable option for you. Contact All Year Cooling in South Florida for a total check of your HVAC system, and rest easy knowing that you’ll stay warm all winter.

The Broward County Fair is making its long-awaited comeback for the first time in five years. The fair is open Friday, November 17-26th at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, for the first time since 1996. It couldn’t be more perfect timing with Thanksgiving break coinciding exactly with the fairs dates. The kids have off school, you have holiday time off – there’s nothing holding you back! For 10 days, you can take the family to enjoy all kinds of rides and indulge in funnel cake, cotton candy and ice cream (It’s the holidays so you have an excuse to indulge). As Floridians, we are some of the only Americans who can wear T-shirts and shorts in November and still be hot. Most of the time it can be unpleasant to be outside for long periods of time, but take a ride on the Ferris wheel and delight in the wind in your face with your loved ones. With over 75 rides, shows and attractions, there’s something in the family for the daredevils and for the ones looking for more leisurely rides and entertainment (even if that just means the Grand Carousel). The fair is free up to 26” tall, and $6-10 depending on your height and options. There are also options for unlimited rides for the thrill seekers as well. It is located at 901 S Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, FL. With the holiday season already upon us, it’s time for families and loved ones to get together and enjoy each other’s company. After hitting up the fair, when you’re exhausted and ready to relax at home, make sure your home is cool and prepared for company during the holidays. If you have any AC repair or installation issues during the Thanksgiving break, don’t hesitate to contact All Year Cooling!

In most regions of the country, getting your HVAC system ready for the holidays means getting a tune-up for your furnace, but Florida isn’t like other states. The mild winters can get warm without warning, making it necessary for you to make sure both your furnace and air conditioner are ready for the workload. To avoid a holiday catastrophe, here are some tips to get your south Florida air conditioner and other HVAC components in tip-top condition. Change the Air Filter One of the easiest steps to prepare your AC for the holidays is changing the filter. The only thing that you really need to know is what type of filter to choose. Each filter has a specific Minimum Efficiency Report Value, or MERV rating. This value shows the fineness of the filter, and the higher the number, the more efficient the filter is at removing particles and other contaminants. While this improves indoor air quality, it also allows the airflow to move freely from the air conditioner and furnace, through the air ducts, and into your home. This provides pinpoint accuracy from your thermostat and reduces the wear and tear on your HVAC system, creating a longer lifespan and preventing emergency repairs during the holiday season. Getting a Tune-up If you’re expecting a number of guests for the holiday season, you should already know that nearly everyone is comfortable at a different temperature. That’s why having your air conditioner ready to go is of the utmost importance. When you schedule a tune-up with one of our factory-trained technicians, they’ll ensure that everything is in prime condition by inspecting the various components. This will make your HVAC system run effectively, while also limiting or avoiding potential repairs while you have guests in town. In addition, you should have both the air conditioner and furnace checked to make sure that both are running smoothly, even if you don’t think you’ll need to use both. Cleaning the Ductwork Although it’s often overlooked, clean ductwork is one of the most important factors in improving comfort, efficiency, and indoor air quality in your home. While air filters provide an adequate first line of defense from dust, some can still get into the ductwork. Over time, this buildup can obstruct airflow, and if treated air makes it through the ductwork, it spews dust into your home, creating an unsafe environment. When you get the ductwork cleaned, air can flow freely through the ductwork, enabling you to find the perfect temperature to suit everyone’s needs during a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. On top of that, you won’t have to worry about breathing in the dust and debris that comes as a natural result of running your HVAC system. Since 1973, All Year Cooling has provided trusted AC and heating service from Vero Beach to Homestead and everywhere in between. A new AC unit can cost thousands of dollars. The better the system you want — and the larger your home is — the more you’ll end up paying for the new unit. As expensive as it is, though, you don’t want to forego getting a new AC unit if you really need one. It can improve energy efficiency and make you comfortable in your home through the hot and humid summer months. But what if you can’t afford to pay for a new unit up front? You have a few options in front of you. Use a Credit Card If you have a credit card with enough available credit to cover the new AC unit, it might be the option you’re first inclined to choose. Putting a large purchase on your card can enable you to quickly rack up rewards points, whether your card offers cash back, travel rewards, or other perks. Some cards even come with their own product quality guarantee for certain types of purchases. However, there are a few big caveats to using a credit card for a major purchase. Because the purchase will put a dent in your overall available credit, your credit score will take a hit. Furthermore, unless you’re taking advantage of an introductory low-interest rate, you may end up paying hundreds of dollars in interest as you pay off your new unit. Seek a Personal Loan If your credit is decent, you may be qualified to take out a personal loan. The big advantage to this is that these loans are unsecured, which means they don’t require collateral. However, you need to be wary if you’re thinking about getting a personal loan. Some companies will make their offers look good at first, but they’ll hide extra fees in the loan. You might even get saddled with an outrageously high-interest rate. Credit unions tend to offer the best deals on loans, but you could also examine offers from other reputable financial institutions. Personal loans usually take three to five years to pay off. Consider Company Financing The company that is selling your new AC unit to you will bend over backward to convince you to make the purchase, and this often translates into attractive financing offers. You could get a low-interest rate and other nice perks if you choose to go this route. All Year Cooling in Florida, for example, offers financing options with terms that range from six months to five years — all depending on what you purchase and what your financial situation is. There is also no minimum credit score, so it’s a great option for folks who have new credit or bad credit. If you’re ready to say goodbye to your clunky old air conditioner, you don’t have to wait. By choosing the financing option that is best for you, you can be cool and comfy in no time. Contact All Year Cooling to learn more about their financing offerings and how you can get your new unit installed soon.

Fall is a busy time for families with children. You have to make sure the kids have good school clothes, put together a schedule so everyone gets to school on time, and start preparing for winter festivities. You also have to make sure your kids are prepared to participate in sports. Whether you have a boy who is playing football or a girl who is joining the cross-country team, you want to make sure your family is ready for the events ahead. Buy the Right Equipment Your kids’ school might provide some of the basic equipment they need, but it might be up to you to purchase other items. For example, you’ll need to make sure your kids have comfortable and durable shoes that are appropriate for the sports they’re playing. You might also need to buy protective gear, like compression sleeves, padding, or other items. To give your kids the best chance of success, you could even buy them sports equipment to use at home, like balls, targets, and nets. Be sure to shop around for the best deals on sports equipment. For shoes, check out end-of-summer sales from your favorite retailers. For other items, try to find lightly used second-hand gear. Coordinate Schedules If your kids are too young to drive, or if they don’t have their own vehicles, you’ll need to make sure that everyone has a way to get where they need to be. You might need to take the following steps to keep everyone on track: Ask about adjusting your work schedule so you can pick up the kids from practice. Contact other parents whose kids are involved in sports to ask if they can help with transportation needs. If you have multiple children and their game times conflict with one another, talk to them so they’ll understand that you can’t always attend everyone’s games. If some of your children’s games are a significant distance away from your home town, try to clear your schedule so you can attend to support their efforts. To make sure everyone in your family is on the same page, create a family calendar and put it in a place where everyone can access it easily. You could also use a collaboration tool like Google and keep track of your family schedule online. Create a Comfortable Environment for Your Student Athletes If your children are in high school, they might have a heavy homework load in addition to a rigorous sports schedule. For them to succeed, you want to create a comfortable home environment that lets them concentrate on their responsibilities. If your kids have their own desks and a study space that is free of distractions, they’ll have an easier time keeping their grades up despite spending a lot of time at practice. You should also make sure that the temperature in your home is comfortable. The weather is likely to stay warm throughout autumn in Florida, so you want to make sure your AC is functioning well. Schedule an appointment with All Year Cooling so an expert can come check on your system.
