Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. How will your family kick off the season of sun? You can find lots of kid-friendly events and activities in the Fort Lauderdale area that you can put on your Memorial Day weekend to-do list.
On May 27, head to Fort Lauderdale Beach at A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. At the Great American Beach Party, which begins at 10 a.m., you can listen to live bands, show off your skills in a sandcastle contest, look at classic cars, and play beach games. Best of all, there’s a designated Family Fun Zone where the youngest members of your family can have a blast. The event is free, but you’ll probably have to pay for nearby parking.
Between May 27 and May 29, bring the kids to Flamingo Gardens for KidzFest. They’ll enjoy free pony rides between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., but that’s just the beginning of the fun. Games and activities will also be featured — even a bounce house! Other activities include animal presentations and arts and crafts. The admission fee is $18 for kids 12 and older and $9 for kids ages 3-11.
There’s nothing wrong with a mini staycation if you want to have some quality family time over the Memorial Day weekend. Set up some outdoor games in your backyard and invite the neighbors and their kids over for a barbecue. For extra family bonding time, recruit your kids to help you plan your party.
